Cafés & restaurants in SPO

During longer stays, the question sometimes arises as to where else to eat in St. Peter-Ording. Or which café in another part of the town offers delicious cakes. As there have been a lot of gastronomic changes in SPO in recent years, here are our (very personal) tips:

The Strandhotel Zweite Heimat is just a few steps away from the Beach Motel. The "Esszimmer" restaurant is also known as the "Wohlfühlstube" - and rightly so, as the restaurant is very cosy and lovingly furnished. In the afternoon with coffee and cake or in the evening with delicious, regional dishes and a hearty craft beer, you can have a great time here.

The regional breakfast buffet is also great, but it's best to book in advance as it's so popular. In good weather, it's best to sit outside on the terrace, nicely sheltered in a beach chair with a view of the dyke.

This beautiful little country café is still something of an insider tip - you'll find it in Tümlauer Koog. When the weather is nice, you can sit on the sun terrace with a view of the extensive orchard, and when the weather is not so good, you can sit cosily in the old thatched house. In addition to homemade cakes, there are also various salads and savoury sandwiches on the menu.

It's a bit of a walk from the Beach Motel to the Landcafé, but it's perfectly doable by bike!

The Olsdorfer Krug is located in the centre of the village district. You will meet many locals in this listed building - always a good sign of quality. If you're lucky, the problems of the world will be discussed at the next table and possible solutions presented - very entertaining! The team conjures up home-style cooking and in-house specialities, for example lamb from the house slaughterhouse, game from their own hunting grounds and delicious fish specialities.

TIP: This is the right place for those who like hearty food and cheerful drinks.

People meet at Pasquale in the Bad district. If you sometimes get the feeling in the summer months that the place is all tourists, you should take a closer look here. Kitesurfing instructors, familiar faces from the catering and hotel industry and more can be found among the many regulars.

In our opinion, the stand-up pizzeria offers the best pizza far and wide, delicious pasta, antipasti, as well as fish sandwiches, salads and desserts. Since the remodelling in 2014, there are certainly twice as many seats - and yet you often have to move to the park benches opposite. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make a reservation.

TIP: In winter, Pasquale can protect his trattoria with mobile glass walls - so you can find a cosy place to feast even in bad weather.

The legendary Pfahlbau restaurant "Die Seekiste" is now home to another restaurant from the gastro-rock stars from Hamburg. Salt & Silver am Meer is the name of the new restaurant. And the name is already a cult favourite. The two owners were once inspired by recipes from all over the world while travelling. A travel blog turned into cookery books and then the first restaurants. In 2020, they were honoured with the "Genuss-Michel" gastronomy award.

Regional products, creatively presented, sometimes crispy & smoky grilled on an open fire - that's the restaurant concept. And with a unique view of the North Sea. The catering team also offers vegetarian dishes. But no matter what it is, it will always be a flavour experience paired with the spiciness and acidity that is typical of Salt & Silver. The Sandperle is the restaurant of the Hotel Ambassador. Located directly on the beach promenade in the Bad district, it's a great place to sit and has a good view of the action on the promenade. The staff are friendly and courteous and the menu leaves nothing to be desired.

The focus is on high-quality regional cuisine. In cooperation with "FEINHEIMISCH", the association for regional food and cookery culture, the kitchen team primarily uses high-quality ingredients from Schleswig-Holstein.

TIP: We can particularly recommend the delicious homemade waffles in the afternoon and the various types of homemade iced tea.

This gallery café in Tating also serves delicious homemade cakes and tarts. In the almost 140-year-old half-timbered house with its light green painted windows, surrounded by greenery, it is particularly pleasant to sit in the garden. There is a children's playground for the kids to run around on the lawn. It is also cosy and very comfortable inside. You'll soon discover that the owners have a soft spot for coffee pots.

If you don't fancy something sweet, we recommend the typical North German dishes from the small menu.

It is already well known in Heiligenhafen & Büsum: The TAMATSU. On offer: crossover cuisine with delicious sushi. Now Tashi Tamatsu, a native of Tibet, has opened a third location in Orsteil Dorf.

Prominently located on the promenade, both the indoor and outdoor areas are ideal for dining. True explosions of flavour from regional and international ingredients and spices are served here. TAMTSU SPO also offers vegetarian and vegan dishes. And to top it all off: a large selection of cocktails. Simply delicious & also a great tip for a sundowner in the evening.
